Toyota Land Cruiser Only Moves Forward

Already in 1956, the Japanese SUV Land Cruiser (a new name that has survived to this day) was mass-produced and exported abroad. The original design of the Toyota Land Cruiser 20 series lasted about 30 years! The word 'land' translated from German means 'edge, earth.' Conditionally speaking, this word denotes a territory with borders. The word 'cruiser' from English means 'cruiser, boat.'

In 1976, the chairman of Toyota holding decided to create a new 60 series of cars, including a more comfortable and convenient interior. It was from this period that buyers were given the choice of car engine: gasoline or diesel. This line of cars had a third row of seats, which, of course, had a positive effect on consumer demand. The Japanese went further! By 1984, instead of the usual manual transmission, engineers installed an automatic.

Along with the Toyota Land Cruiser, another Japanese vehicle was produced – the Pajero, no less comfortable and interesting. Therefore, the next series of the Land Cruiser became the 80 series. The body modernization led to improved aerodynamics of the car; the car looked solid and rich. This series showed the capabilities of Japanese SUVs, revealing them from another side, showing a combination of comfort and practicality in one vehicle. The 80-series Cruiser held its own on the market for about 9 years. The engines of this series – gasoline (4.5 liters, 215 hp) and diesel (with and without turbocharging) – were constantly modified and perfected by engineers.

The powertrain (transmission) included a locking center differential. Notably, both axles (front and rear) could be equipped with locking differentials. As an additional option, locking differentials could be installed on both axles. This function ensures safe off-road driving.

Closer to the 2000s, a completely new 90 series appeared, giving rise to the famous Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. This version is distinguished by the appearance of a method of connecting the wheels to the frame in which the wheels move independently of each other.

The top SUV Land Cruiser 100 included a gasoline engine with a displacement of up to 4.7 liters and a diesel 4.2, reaching 250 horsepower.

Next in line is the Land Cruiser 120, which first rolled off the assembly line in 2003. The differences from the previous version are reduced dimensions and practicality. The car is still comfortable, solid, and unafraid of off-road. The gasoline engine with a volume of 4 liters is the most popular. However, the 2.7-liter engine is also produced in the United Arab Emirates and is in demand in its circles.
