As reported by Parta.org, 38% of the participating institutions said that the number of foreign students decreased between 2007 and 2008. 65% of respondents noted that after the events of 2001, they have still not been able to restore their position in attracting students from abroad.
According to the compilers of the report, this is mainly due to difficulties in obtaining a US student visa. The decline in the number of foreign students in American educational institutions is also influenced by increased competition from other countries, primarily the UK, Australia, France and Germany.
