USA switches to dollar coins

Americans approached the issuance of $1 coins with great scope, including historical scope. The metal money will feature all former US presidents. As US Mint Director Edmund Moy said at the presentation of samples of the so-called "presidential" coins, a total of 38 coins are to be issued. However, they will depict 37 presidents. The point is that Grover Cleveland was elected head of state twice, but not for two consecutive terms, but with a time interval. Therefore, American lawmakers decided to place his portraits on two different coins.

On the reverse side of the coin will be the symbol of America - the Statue of Liberty. As Moy said, starting in 2007, four coins will be issued annually into circulation. According to the Mint Director, issuing new metal money is beneficial for the US economy. Owners of vending machines will save huge sums just by not having to use the rather expensive machines that accept paper banknotes. In addition, it will become easier to pay at parking meters and other places where payment is accepted automatically and where too many small coins are already required. The issuance of such coins is also beneficial for the state, as the service life of metal money is several times longer than that of paper money.

By the way, new $10 coins will also appear in the USA. As Edmund Moy reported, a decision was made to issue gold minted coins of this denomination with images of wives of former US presidents. They will form a "pair" with the $1 coins. Moreover, for those presidents who did not have spouses, the "pair" will be gold coins with images of symbols of freedom, as well as the most significant events of a given leader's presidency.
