US to Cancel Visa Regime for Czech Citizens

Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, who was on a business visit to the US, also took part in the signing of the memorandum. He described the event as a 'turning point in history' and stressed that 'a huge amount of work has been done for all EU countries.' The American minister reminded of the need to take precautionary measures on both sides.

According to Radio Prague, the memorandum takes into account the Czech Republic's obligations in visa policy towards the European Union and European legislation. Many EU representatives expressed some doubts about the document's compliance with the interests of all EU member states.

The Americans, however, will require a range of biographical and biometric data from Czech citizens, the scope of which is still to be discussed by both sides. The Czech Minister of the Interior suggests that this will be information on migration, or wanted terrorists and people who have committed serious crimes. There is no need to provide bank data, according to the minister.
