Balaklava – a former secret base is today turning into a well-known resort
First of all, we want to advise not to jump to conclusions and not to get upset. After all, the central part of the hero city is far from the best place for rest. To have a good and enjoyable vacation in Sevastopol, you need to know its surroundings. We will talk about them in more detail later.
VACATION IN THE VILLAGES OF NORTHERN SEVASTOPOL
Everyone planning to go to Sevastopol in summer needs to know that there are wonderful sandy beaches here. They are located in the northern part of the city. From the Uchkuevka area to the village of Andreevka stretches a huge beach, several dozen kilometers long. You can recommend staying for vacation in one of the resort seaside villages of this region of Greater Sevastopol: Kacha, Orlovka, Andreevka, Lyubimovka – in any of these settlements there is an opportunity to rent a hotel room or rent accommodation in the private sector. Yes, there is no vibrant nightlife and almost no entertainment. But for a calm and inexpensive beach holiday, this option is most suitable.
BALAKLAVA: ROCKS AND YACHTS
If you prefer sea excursions, picturesque cliffs, and are willing to spend a more substantial amount on vacation, head to Balaklava. In the recent past, this village was a secret military facility. Today everything has changed. Modern Balaklava is the largest yacht resort in Crimea. Near the embankment of Balaklava Bay and at its piers, old boats, pleasure boats, and expensive white yachts crowd together.
There are not many hotels and inns in Balaklava, so the accommodation prices can hardly be called affordable. There are no comfortable beaches in the village itself, but there are some a few kilometers south, towards Cape Aya.
Among the attractions, it is worth noting the submarine museum, located right in the cliffs, in deep adits, and the ancient fortress of Chembalo, towering over the southern shore of Balaklava Bay.
PARADISE ON FIOLENT
The cottage village of Fiolent, located a dozen kilometers from Sevastopol near the cape and beach of the same name, can be safely recommended to adherents of quiet recreation and connoisseurs of picturesque landscapes.
Here, at the foot of the mountains, you will find the well-known Fiolent beach. What is it famous for? First, its staircase leading along the mountain slopes from the village to the sea. It was built hundreds of years ago by monks living in a nearby monastery and consists of more than 800 steps. So the hike to the beach and back is a very tiring process. But believe me, this path is worth taking to find yourself on an amazing jasper beach. You will not encounter such natural beauty anywhere else: on one side, green mountain slopes, on the other, the purest sea, and underfoot jasper (colorful pebbles). A true paradise!
AND LET'S NOT FORGET SEVASTOPOL ITSELF
Well, at least one day we still recommend you dedicate to Sevastopol itself. Lovers of active recreation can enjoy a water park and many nightclubs. Children will be delighted by a visit to the dolphinarium or aquarium. Men will not be able to refuse a boat ride on Sevastopol Bay in close proximity to numerous warships.
To lovers of military history, we advise visiting the Panorama of the Defense of Sevastopol, Malakhov Kurgan, monuments and memorials, of which there are plenty in the city and its surroundings. And for those who like to immerse themselves in the depths of centuries and take a journey into the past, it is simply necessary to visit the open-air museum – the ancient city of Chersonesus.
