According to admissions committee members, the percentage-wise additions to good academic knowledge for admission to a British university are as follows:
1. Good written English – 97%
2. Evidence of commitment to chosen subject – 88%
3. Evidence of positive attitude to learning – 83%
4. Evidence of ability to think and work independently – 72%
5. Reasonable understanding of mathematics – 44%
6. Evidence of success through a difficult start or background – 35%
7. Experience in management or leadership qualities – 32%
8. Work experience – 30%
9. Excellent achievements in performing arts – 21%
10. Awareness of global or cultural differences – 18%
Also important is writing the admission essay. The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) published 10 sentences that applicants most commonly use in their essays. So if you want your essay to be original, do not use the following phrases:
