Getting Ready for a Road Trip

A well-planned trip guarantees an interesting and carefree journey

Having decided on such an adventure, you need to prepare well and not forget anything. Lists will help with this. You need to create checklists for the readiness of things, food, car, home, and documents. Then you won't forget anything.

Everything is packed, but is it all? For a long road trip by car, it is advisable to take: a set of tools, a portable fire extinguisher, a spare tire, a tow rope, rags, a flashlight, a warning triangle, spare gasoline, engine oil, and antifreeze. Responsible preparation of the car for a long journey includes passing a technical inspection, and it is especially important to check the brakes and cooling system.

Also take care of documents. It is advisable to send copies to yourself by email. You should have with you the originals of your driver's license and vehicle registration certificate, insurance policy, European accident report, passports of travelers (or other identification documents), as well as medical insurance policies. If you plan to stay in hotels, book them in advance and print out the reservation.

Pay special attention to arranging insurance policies. A travel medical insurance calculator will help you choose the best option for your trip. Also, do not forget to get a "Green Card" required for a car trip abroad.

If the trip is planned with children, you need to take care of their safety and, no less important, interesting pastime. Prepare light snacks and drinks in advance. But do not take perishable products. Also useful will be CDs with children's music or entertaining toys (cubes or a drawing tablet). A blanket, pillow, garbage bags, and a large supply of napkins will not be superfluous either.

It is strongly recommended to write down emergency phone numbers, check the first aid kit for essential medications: sorbents, antispasmodics, anti-diarrhea, for sunburns, antihistamines, disinfectants, adhesive bandages, and bandages. Medicines are compact and will definitely come in handy in remote areas.

It is important to remember that such a familiar internet, and even ordinary communication, are not always available on the road. Download maps and useful apps that work offline in advance. And do not forget chargers and portable power banks!

Sometimes, having responsibly prepared for the trip, we forget about what we leave the house like. To avoid worrying on the road, make sure that all electrical appliances are turned off, utilities (gas, water, and heating) are shut off, flowers are watered, pets are handed over to reliable hands, and windows and front doors are securely locked.

And most importantly – do not forget a good mood and anticipation of a great vacation.
