The annual vignette will cost €55. Its validity period is from December 1 of the previous year to January 31 of the following year; a total of 14 months. The cost of a semi-annual vignette is €35, and its validity period is 6 consecutive months from the date of purchase. A vignette for motorcycles is also introduced, the cost of which will be €27.5 per year and €17.5 for six months. In 2008, only half-year vignettes can be purchased.
Vignettes can be purchased at all gas stations in the country and in neighboring states, as well as at branches of national and foreign automobile clubs, at post offices of Slovenia, and at some kiosks.
For the absence of a vignette, which must be affixed to the windshield of the car, a fine of €300 to €800 is imposed, reports the Slovenian Tourist Organization. The rule applies to both locals and tourists traveling in their own or rented car. As Travel.ru notes, a similar system exists in a number of countries around the world – for example, in Switzerland.
