Attractive salary prospects open up for system administrators only after 2-3 years of work, the study says. Beginners in Moscow will be offered no more than 20-30 thousand rubles, in St. Petersburg - 16-25 thousand rubles for Windows administration and 5 thousand rubles more than the specified amount for Unix. But Windows administration professionals with certificates for Microsoft software products, experience with distributed networks, Cisco networking equipment and Unix/Linux products earn up to 80 thousand rubles in Moscow. And Unix support specialists with knowledge of Shell and Perl programming languages, skills in working with Cisco networking equipment and more than 3 years of experience can claim a salary of up to 100 thousand rubles in the capital.
In addition, the study found that in general, system administrators are promising and educated specialists. 97% of them are men, 72% are under 30 years old. More than half (59%) of Russian sysadmins have higher education and almost all (83%) can read special literature in English.
