Chiffon – an inexpensive and presentable fabric

Production of chiffon

The first enterprises for the production of this fabric appeared in China. After some time, it began to be produced in Europe as well. Initially, the fabric was very expensive, as it was based on equally expensive silk fibers.

As for our days, they have been replaced in most cases by synthetic and artificial threads. As a result, it was possible to improve the performance characteristics of the material, as well as reduce its cost.

Varieties of fabric

It is recommended to purchase chiffon from the company "Textile Contact". It is presented here in the following varieties:

Satin. Its main feature is its glossy appearance. The signature vertical relief of the fabric is achieved by repeatedly twisting the threads;

Stretch. This is an elastic and at the same time dense material. It can be plain or with a print on the surface;

Changé. It has proven itself best in sewing women's dresses. It is characterized by color variability and good light reflection;

Chameleon. This type of chiffon has a very unusual quality – it can shimmer in the light stream. This effect is best observed during movement;

Lurex. A metallized thread is woven into the structure of the fabric. It shimmers with a silver or gold hue;

Crepe. A solid-dyed material that can be with a shiny coating or with a printed pattern. The surface of crepe is slightly rough. The fabric easily folds into small pleats and is almost non-transparent.

List of pros and cons

The list of common advantages of all types of chiffon includes: ease of dyeing; attractive structure; hygroscopicity; antibacterial fabric; color retention; ability to thermoregulate.

Among the disadvantages are rapid fading, low wear resistance, difficulties in care and the need for delicate handling.

What products are made from chiffon

The material is used not only for sewing beautiful summer dresses, but also for the manufacture of other products. These are curtains, scarves, neckerchiefs, stoles, wardrobe items and accessories.

Chiffon products are washed in a gentle mode. The water temperature should not exceed 30 degrees. If the product is based on silk threads, washing is not allowed – such a product will have to be dry-cleaned.
