More and more domestic tourists are going to St. Petersburg for the weekend
However, there is an alternative. And even within the expanses of our native CIS. One of them is St. Petersburg, the cultural capital of Russia and one of the pearls of European civilization. Domestic travel agencies and especially individual tourists have long begun to explore this new old destination.
Many call this city the Northern Palmyra, the second Venice or Amsterdam. Needless to say, completely in vain. Because St. Petersburg is a unique architectural ensemble unlike any other - a triumph of strict lines and majestic beauty. And the exhibitions of St. Petersburg's palaces and museums are in no way inferior to European ones. Especially since every year hundreds of thousands of Europeans and Americans go there not in search of exoticism 'a la russe' (for that there is Moscow), but precisely out of love for art.
However, enough has been written about the beauties of St. Petersburg - both in prose and in verse. Much less is known to Ukrainians about what to expect from a city that is now abroad.
The city of three revolutions, as it was called in Soviet times, is separated from the Ukrainian border by almost a thousand kilometers and two borders. There are not many daredevils who venture to cover this distance by private car. And the majority of our fellow citizens still prefer the railway.
Upon arriving in St. Petersburg, it's time to think about accommodation. Without looking into the stratospheric heights of five-star hotels, you can quickly see that a more or less decent hotel room can be rented for about $30-40. Moreover, recently many private hotels have opened here, with good hotel furniture and excellent service.
St. Petersburg, especially during the white nights period, is visited by a huge number of tourists. In addition to Russians and citizens of other former Soviet republics, guests from far abroad come to the city en masse. And not in vain - such a trip can be truly unforgettable. In a good way. After all, it is no coincidence that St. Petersburg is included by UNESCO in the top ten most beautiful cities in the world.
