Windshield Wiper Blades – Features, Tips and Recommendations

The safety of driving depends on the reliability of automotive wipers

If you want to replace old blades with new ones, you are in the right place, because our guide will help you make the right choice.

Tips and Recommendations

Length. Wipers come in different lengths – depending on the size of the glass. The wiper on the driver's side is always longer than the one on the passenger's side. Windshields on the passenger side are usually 475 to 500 mm wide.

The blade is an important part of the wiper. Good quality rubber lasts a long time and effectively cleans the windshield. Low-quality rubber hardens quickly and leaves scratches on the glass.

Flexibility. The wiper, as an external element of the car, is constantly exposed to wind. To avoid rapid breakdowns and damage, it must have a flexible structure.

Losing flexibility, wipers cannot adapt to the shape of the windshield and clean it effectively. Under the influence of sunlight, wiper blades heat up and do not conform to the shape of the glass, which reduces their functionality. At low temperatures, the rubber hardens and becomes brittle.

Supports clogged with snow or ice do not apply adequate pressure to the wipers. Dust, road dirt, and insects damage the rubber, impairing its performance. Once the blades lose their structure, water seeping through cracks leaves streaks on the glass.

Features of Wiper Blades

The friction element between the wiper and the glass requires periodic cleaning and replacement. Most experts recommend replacing the rubber every 6-12 months to ensure optimal performance and clear visibility.

Blades made of natural rubber wear out quickly, while blades reinforced with halogen or synthetic material demonstrate a longer service life. In any case, all of them, regardless of material, require replacement, as sun, ozone, cold, and use degrade the quality of the rubber.

Rattling, noise, or knocking sounds made by the blade when moving up or down indicate that it is time to replace it with a new one. It is not necessary to change the wipers, only the rubber!
