What rights does the visa for immigrants from diverse countries give me? Will the US government help me find a job?
If you are issued a DV visa, you will be able to live and work in the United States. The US government will not pay for your airfare, find housing or a job for you. You will need to prove that you are unlikely to need assistance from the US government to cover living expenses. You will not need to prove that you have any specific amount of money. During the visa interview, a consular officer will consider the totality of your circumstances.
Why are citizens of my country not eligible for the DV program this year?
Countries from which more than 50,000 immigrants have arrived in the United States in the last five years are not eligible for the DV lottery. Although such countries are not excluded permanently, we cannot predict when they will be granted this right again.
If I register for the DV program as a principal applicant, can my wife submit a separate application in the same capacity? Could this be a reason to not process our applications?
Husband and wife may submit separate applications if they meet the necessary requirements. If one spouse is selected, the other may apply for a visa as an accompanying dependent.
Can I apply for a DV visa if I already have a US visa?
Yes, you can apply for DV-2017 even if you already have a US visa.
Can I change the address in my application if I am selected but have moved since registration?

Why are there not enough DV visas for all those selected in the lottery?
The DV-2017 program provides for the issuance of 50,000 visas. More than 50,000 people are selected in the lottery because some do not meet the requirements for a visa or decline to apply; we, in turn, want to ensure that all 50,000 visas are issued. Only the first 50,000 applicants who meet the requirements will be issued visas. After those visas are issued, the program will be concluded.
If you want to obtain a visa after being selected, you should apply for it promptly. If you do not appear for the consular interview, reschedule it to a later date, or do not have the necessary documents, you risk losing the opportunity to get a visa.
What is the cost of participating in the Diversity Visa program?
Participation in the program is free. If you are selected, you will have to pay visa fees during the interview at the embassy. Beware of fraud involving payment of fees when registering for the visa lottery!
