But later, not any car could become a taxi, only a specially designed model. These included British cabmen who worked mainly at night.
This mode of transport got its name in 1905 when the taximeter was invented. And later, in 1948, the famous 'checkered patterns' and a green light signal appeared in the USSR. The latter meant that the taxi was free.
Nowadays, taxis are so significant that they are even a symbol of some cities. Take, for example, the exclusively yellow taxis of New York or the famous black English cabs. By the way, the black color for them was not chosen by chance. It was interpreted as a symbol of honor and dignity.
