Americans consider the profession of firefighter to be very prestigious
At the opposite pole were the professions of real estate agent, accountant, and securities trader. They were slightly outpaced by the professions of actor and banker. Professions with sufficiently low prestige include journalist, lawyer, and congressman.
As Washington ProFile notes, this survey has been conducted since 1977. During this time, the popularity of the professions of teacher, engineer, and manager has grown significantly. Meanwhile, the prestige of the jobs of lawyer, scientist, and doctor has declined.
A Gallup poll showed that Americans consider jobs related to medicine and healthcare, computers, and manufacturing to be the most promising for young men. For young women, respondents recommend choosing a career in the fields of medicine and healthcare, computers, and education.
