According to officials, the tables of street cafes, which occupy a significant part of the sidewalk, create inconvenience for pedestrians. Moreover, pedestrians are exposed to danger as they are forced to go onto the roadway.
The first street to be left without open-air cafes will be the famous rue Montorqueil – one of the most popular in the city. On weekends, 10-20 thousand people stroll here.
Cafe owners are faced with a choice: either, by placing tables, they leave 160 centimeters of free space on the sidewalk, or they will have to pay a fine. According to Travel.ru, owners of street cafes must take the necessary measures in the near future.
Not only the owners of establishments, but also residents of the city oppose the decision of the Paris authorities. But so far these protests have not yielded any results.
• The closure of street cafes will benefit their competitors located in permanent buildings. Many of them have started to equip their premises in advance, inviting designers for this. After all, any establishment that has, for example, rare furniture, and on the walls hang country-style lamps and even the external wiring is arranged to match the chosen style, will always have its regular customers. And this is additional advertising that would not hurt any cafe or small restaurant.
