The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Russian citizens to "carefully weigh the advisability of trips to Thailand" in principle. The ministry also advised Russians to exercise caution, avoid crowds, and not leave their places of residence in Thailand after dark.
At the same time, the Foreign Ministry noted that the situation in the resort town of Pattaya is gradually normalizing, and the situation in other resort areas of Thailand remains calm. No information has been received about any foreign citizens from this country being injured.
As noted by Lenta.ru, since March, mass protest actions by supporters of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra have been taking place in Thailand. On April 10, demonstrators disrupted the ASEAN summit in Pattaya by storming the building where politicians were meeting. The latter had to be evacuated by helicopters.
On April 12, the unrest spread to the country's capital. Participants in the protests attempted to storm the Ministry of Interior building and then moved towards the government residence. As a result of the clashes, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy sustained minor injuries. A state of emergency was declared in the city and troops were deployed.
