Childbirth Abroad

The quality of medical services, comfort and professionalism of doctors interests future parents in the first place

Today, more attention is paid to the healthcare sector in our country compared to the 1990s. Clinics are being rebuilt, domestic and the latest imported medical equipment and drugs are being developed and imported. Doctors undergo qualified training and constantly improve the level of their basic specialty.

But many wealthy compatriots prefer to be monitored and treated abroad. Go to any women's forum on the Russian internet and you will see how many topics are devoted to choosing a doctor for pregnancy management and childbirth in developed countries of Europe, Israel, the USA or Canada. Why do Russian women, having sufficient means, want their child to be born in another country?

Previously, the main reason why a woman gave birth abroad was the law supported by many states: a child born in the country has the right to obtain its citizenship. In the early 1990s, the USA was simply flooded with pregnant women who stayed there after giving birth, taking advantage of such a legal "loophole".

But now, the level of medical care in developed countries has come to the fore as to why women trust their pregnancy and childbirth to European specialists. A contract for the provision of services is mandatory concluded with women planning to give birth, which specifies all points and possible options for obstetric care. By the way, abroad, the decision to administer epidural anesthesia or a cesarean section is made exclusively by a council of doctors, while in our country, unfortunately, it is often prescribed without special reasons and at the patient's request.

An important role in choosing a maternity hospital abroad is played by the comfort and coziness of the wards, the possibility for a partner to be present at the birth, childbirth using various methods: vertical, on a ball, sitting in a special chair. During contractions, a midwife is with the woman, who helps relax, performs massage on acupuncture points, monitors and records the time of contractions.

After birth, the child is placed in comfortable conditions, immediately put to the breast, and only then washed, weighed and necessary hygiene procedures are performed. The wards are equipped so that the baby is constantly with the mother, and neonatologists themselves come for necessary tests and examine the child during his waking hours. Few Russian clinics can afford to adapt to the mother and child in the same way, rather than to the regular hospital schedule.

As for the financial side of the issue, the difference between childbirth abroad and in our country often lies only in the cost of flight and accommodation. All other paid medical services have almost the same cost.
