Psychologist's Work in Children's Institutions

The work of a psychologist in a kindergarten consists of helping educators and parents turn their program of teaching the child into the child's own program. The main way is to involve the child in activities that are accessible and interesting to them. These activities change with the child's age and individuality, and are largely determined by the adult's experience, knowledge, and skills.

In a preschool institution, psychologists are called upon to protect the physical and mental health of children, create conditions that promote their emotional well-being, and ensure the free development of each child's abilities. The implementation of all these functions requires working with children, their parents, and the kindergarten staff.

An individual examination of a child by a psychologist is conducted at the request of educators or parents who are interested in understanding the child's personal characteristics and getting advice on working with them. Preliminary, the psychologist usually talks with the educator to find out how they assess the child, which qualities cause concern or difficulties in upbringing or education. They also gather information about the child's family. In addition, the psychologist in the kindergarten observes the child in the group: communication with other children, attitude toward the educator, performance of tasks in class, and adherence to the routine.

In general, a child psychologist helps adults understand what is happening with their child, as well as with themselves. Their forms of work are as follows:

* individual therapy (including play therapy or sand therapy, art therapy, etc.);
* group therapy (children's trainings);
* work in the family context (i.e., joint psychological work of the child and their parents, psychological assistance, etc.).

The task of the psychologist, both in kindergarten and in personal consultations, is to create conditions that promote seeing one's own life and family life from the outside, awareness of which of your attitudes and actions cause problems. Ultimately, these problems are solved by analyzing the situation, finding a balance in relationships, and restoring a favorable family climate.
