Moscow continues to be one of the main regions where the most vacancies for job seekers in construction professions can be found. The demand for construction materials is not decreasing either. Brick, wood, expanded clay, or concrete Moscow consumes in significantly larger volumes than other cities in the country. Also, the Russian capital is the main consumer and producer of both well-known and new construction and finishing materials.
One of the most important questions that interests practically everyone who is in one way or another connected or wishes to connect their work with Moscow construction sounds approximately like this: “how long will people with construction specialties be in demand on the capital’s labor market?” There are quite serious grounds for this question to arise. After all, it is no secret that sites for mass construction are gradually becoming scarce in Moscow.
The development of Maryinsky Park, which lasted for ten years, has been completed, and the development of Mitino and other districts of the capital is nearing completion. Nevertheless, according to experts, there will be enough work for construction workers for more than one generation.
The fact is that if we take the average provision of Moscow residents with living space, it turns out to be about 24 square meters per person. For comparison, if we take any large European city, the similar indicator will be from 40 to 70 square meters. Therefore, brick, sand expanded clay and other construction materials, as well as skilled and unskilled personnel, will be in demand on the capital’s construction market for a long time. This is also evidenced by the city’s general development plan, according to which by 2020 about 70 million square meters of housing should be commissioned in the capital.
True, from extensive growth of construction volumes, or growth “outward,” construction companies are gradually moving to intensive use of territories within the designated city boundary. A significant amount of space was freed up due to the demolition of old housing, as well as through comprehensive reconstruction of neighborhoods.
Therefore, we can safely say that workers and specialists in construction trades in Moscow will not be threatened by unemployment.
