The Turkish hammam differs significantly from a Russian bath or sauna in interior design
A genuine Turkish bath is a circular structure with a domed roof. In Turkey, the bath is called a hammam. In essence, Turkish baths are the 'descendants' of the public baths of Ancient Rome – the so-called Roman baths. In the center of the hammam, a large stone heated to a certain temperature is placed, and around it are marble vessels with water of contrasting temperatures.
Nowadays, Turkish baths are quite popular in many European countries. Interest in them arose long ago; even the legendary Titanic, which sank in 1912, had several Turkish baths on board, which were in fairly good demand among passengers. Many saunas in St. Petersburg today are arranging Turkish hammams within their walls.
Medical professionals have highly praised and confirmed the benefits of visiting Turkish baths. The main advantage of the hammam is its ability to cleanse the body of toxins and other harmful substances. When visiting a hammam, deep cleansing of the skin occurs, improving its color and overall condition. Regular hammam-goers get rid of chronic fatigue and stress, increase the body's resistance to upper respiratory tract diseases, and regulate metabolic processes in the body, which helps reduce excess weight. Additionally, with the help of a Turkish bath, healthy sleep is normalized in people suffering from insomnia, the functioning of the digestive organs improves, and self-cleaning mechanisms are stimulated.
The principle of operation of a Turkish bath is to maintain very high humidity in the room (about 100%) and a low air temperature (up to +45 degrees). Moreover, such conditions are quite easy to tolerate even for elderly people and those suffering from various diseases.
The Turkish hammam differs significantly from a Russian bath or sauna in interior design. A characteristic feature of the interior design here is the complete absence of wood and wooden products. Stone, particularly marble, is used to a greater extent. All saunas in St. Petersburg that have a Turkish-style steam room decorate the hammam in an oriental style, which has appealed to many of our compatriots.
If you care about your health and want to live in harmony with your own body, be sure to visit a Turkish bath. You don't have to fly to Turkey for that!
