The Union of Ukrainians Working in Poland has opened a special portal to inform compatriots
According to Petr Ostrovsky from the All-Poland Association of Trade Unions, the Ukrainian trade union has opened a special portal for their compatriots: “There is basic information about what the trade union is, what its goals are and who can be asked for help in case of trouble. In the future, we also want to post messages there, for example, from the State Labor Inspectorate. This is not just a trade union website, it is an opportunity to help Ukrainians in Poland.”
Given that about 700,000 workers from Ukraine work in Poland (according to the All-Poland Association of Trade Unions), there is someone to protect. After all, abuses by Polish employers against Ukrainians are typical for many countries that use the labor of guest workers with a low legal culture. These are constant overtime and lack of days off, “under the table” payments and understated rates.
According to Petr Ostrovsky, the trade union intends not only to protect Ukrainians from dishonest employers, but also to help with other issues – for example, sending money abroad, finding an apartment, language training, starting their own company.
As reported by Polskie Radio, the portal is currently available in Ukrainian, and a Russian-language version is planned.
