Miloš Zeman: "The Czech Republic should prepare for a wave of migrants from Ukraine"

Also, the head of state, citing Chief of the General Staff Josef Bečvář, reported that the army is ready to send 1,500 troops to guard the borders to prevent the mass infiltration of illegal migrants into the territory of the Czech Republic.

The citizens of the Czech Republic share the opinion of their president. As shown by the results of the European Commission's "Eurobarometer" surveys among residents of EU member states, Czechs have an extremely negative attitude towards refugees from countries outside the European Union. 81 percent of Czech respondents expressed a negative attitude – this is the highest rate in the EU. The most lenient toward migrants are the Swedes: refugees bother only 31 percent of respondents.
According to Radio Prague, since the beginning of this year, 885 refugees have applied for asylum in the Czech Republic. Almost half of them are Ukrainian citizens, in second place are Cubans, in third are Russians. Of the detained illegal migrants seeking to enter Germany or northern European countries, only a few have applied for asylum.
