In some countries, religious holidays are celebrated at the state level
Although this classification seems naive, it actually contains the origins of other, later classifications. Thus, the modern holiday calendar includes fixed holidays (most often they delight the population with days off, even if they fall in the middle of the week), and non-fixed ones, which are tied not to a date but to a day off – for example, the first Sunday of a month. Most often these are professional holidays.
Furthermore, the holiday calendar consists of religious holidays, which are celebrated at the state level in our country. And since Russia is a kind of stronghold of Orthodoxy, religious holidays are celebrated and awaited not only by believers but also by other citizens. Christmas and Easter are especially widely celebrated.
State holidays of Russia, such as May 9 – Victory Day, June 12 – Russia Day, September 1 – Knowledge Day, or January 25 – Student's Tatiana Day, are special dates that may be accompanied by festive celebrations, but also may (or may not) be working days. The same category includes Old New Year, which is so incomprehensible to foreigners.
International holidays are those that are celebrated all over the world, but depending on the personal preferences of the residents of particular countries, can be popular and universally loved, like New Year and March 8 in Russia, or remain almost meaningless dates on the calendar.
In every person's life, besides state holidays, there are also personal and family holidays that concern each individual and their family. In any case, it is difficult to imagine life without holidays. After all, it's not just another day off. A holiday is an opportunity to spend time joyfully, in a special way, to escape from worries and daily duties, to remember carefree childhood, and simply spend pleasant time with family and friends.
