As reported by the website Vinegret.cz, half of the collected money will be directed by the authorities to the development of tourism in the city. For example, for advertising campaigns or support of specific exhibitions and major international events.
"Despite the difficult period, we do not believe that raising the tax by the cost of one small beer can in any way affect the tourist flow," said Deputy Mayor Pavel Vyhnánek.
According to him, before the coronavirus epidemic, the tourist tax brought Prague about 300 million crowns annually. Accordingly, if the old times return, this amount will double.
