Positive List of Occupations

Non-EU foreigners with vocational training can work in Germany under several conditions. As Deutsche Welle notes, the profession must be on the positive list. The diploma must be recognized in Germany. The applicant must also find an employer themselves.

Metalworking

Germany is experiencing a shortage of personnel in metal-related professions. Above all, there is a lack of skilled workers in metal cutting, metal structure assembly technicians, master welders, and tool mechanics.

Electronic Automation

Professions involving work with automated control systems are also on the "positive list." Mechatronics fitter, electronics specialist, industrial technologist – German companies are allowed to recruit these specialists from non-EU countries.

Construction

Due to the construction boom, Germany is actively attracting specialists from abroad for site supervision, tile and parquet laying, bricklaying, carpentry, roofing, and installation of blinds and roller shutters.

There is also a shortage of specialists in underground construction, canal and tunnel construction, as well as workers for asphalt laying and track laying.

Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation

Specialists are needed for installation and maintenance of heating systems, internal plumbing, air conditioning and ventilation, technologists working with electronic automation of refrigeration systems, specialists in fireplace and stove construction, tinsmiths, and plumbers.

Transport Sector

There is a shortage of train drivers and truck drivers, vehicle maintenance technicians, body repair specialists, metal structure workers in truck construction, and agricultural mechanics.

Medicine

There is an increasingly acute need for operating room nurses, as well as nursing staff in emergency care, intensive care, geriatrics, oncology, nephrology, palliative medicine, or rehabilitation. There is a shortage of midwives, physiotherapists, pediatricians, and specialists in prosthetic, orthopedic, rehabilitation, and hearing aid technology.

Information and Communication Technology and IT

Vacancies remain unfilled for long periods in the field of information and communication technology. Specialists are needed in electronics and communication systems, information systems, and electrical technicians. Another in-demand profession from the positive list is software developers.
