Visiting Latvia Only by Invitation

From now on, tourists will be able to obtain a Latvian entry visa only if they have an invitation from a natural or legal person in Latvia, the form of which is approved by the Latvian Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs. A tourist voucher, on the basis of which people could previously enter Latvia, will no longer be a basis for issuing an entry visa. In addition, to obtain a visa, the visitor must have a certain amount of money - 40 lats (approximately $85) per day when staying in a hotel, and 10 lats for those staying with the people who invited them, as well as an insurance policy guaranteeing coverage of expenses for medical services provided in Latvia if necessary.

At the same time, according to the law, if the invited person violates the visa regime in force in Latvia, the costs of his expulsion from the country will be borne either by the foreigner himself or by the person who invited him. Otherwise, the person who invited the foreigner will henceforth be deprived of such a right. The maximum validity of the visa is 90 days. Documents for obtaining a visa will be accepted by Latvian diplomatic missions.
