Poland refused EU officials to accept new refugees
"We will not accept refugees because we have already accepted Ukrainians who are now in Poland," the minister said. "For us, security is a priority. I will not expose Poland and Poles to danger because of such ideologically motivated concepts as relocation, resettlement. We will not take on new obligations because we have already accepted those Ukrainians who are in Poland," the minister stated. He emphasized that Ukrainian newcomers integrate quite easily into Polish society.
As "Russkaya Germaniya" notes, Polish authorities often exploit the topic of Ukrainians when they need to justify their reluctance to show solidarity with EU partners, who are hit hardest by the influx of migrants from Arab and African countries. And formally, this is justified: according to Eurostat, Poland ranks second in the EU in the number of long-term visas and temporary registrations issued to citizens of non-EU countries. And, as a rule, the majority of these are citizens of Ukraine.
Recall that at the end of September, the European Commission proposed developing a new plan under which at least 50,000 migrants would be distributed across Europe over the next two years. But this time, the EU refugee resettlement program is not mandatory. The Polish authorities took advantage of this.
