Poland, which joined the European Union in 2004, has announced and then postponed the deadlines for joining the Eurozone several times. Earlier, the government counted on introducing the euro in 2011-2013.
As noted by Lenta.ru, to enter the Eurozone, new EU members must meet a number of macroeconomic criteria. In particular, inflation, public debt, and budget deficit must not exceed certain levels. Too high inflation in Poland (about 5%) still significantly exceeds the required ceiling of 2.5%.
Currently, the euro zone includes 15 countries. From January 1, 2009, Slovakia will become the next member of the club, having received permission for this step in July of this year.
