According to Colonel Andrzej Jakubaszek, border guards do not expect a large influx of Ukrainian tourists: "Together with the Ukrainian side, we assume that the increase in the number of people crossing the border will be no more than 10-15%." The Border Guard does not plan to increase the number of staff at border crossings, but is ready to do so if necessary.
Note that Ukrainian citizens who intend to enter Poland without a visa or are traveling through Poland to another Schengen Area country must have a biometric passport. In Ukraine, more than 3 million people have such passports. In addition, a person entering the Schengen Area must confirm the availability of necessary financial resources and not pose a threat to the security of Poland or any other EU state.
Earlier it was reported that Poland is the most popular destination for foreign travel among Ukrainians. Two-fifths of all foreign trips from Ukraine are to the neighboring country. According to the Ukrainian Border Guard, last year 25 million citizens crossed the Ukrainian border. 10 million trips were made to Poland. In second place was Russia – 5 million Ukrainians crossed the border in that direction. In third place in terms of travel popularity was Hungary, which was visited by 3 million Ukrainians last year.
As Polskie Radio notes, Polish consulates also lead in the number of visas issued. Last year, the Polish Consulate in Lviv issued 500,000 documents allowing entry to Poland and the Schengen Area.
