As "Russkaya Germaniya" notes, this measure is intended to solve the problem of low German language proficiency among future police officers. "In a capital with numerous tourists, it certainly makes sense for a police officer to be able to speak English. But if the basic requirements for German are not being met well enough, we need to concentrate on German," said the academy's director.
She also emphasized that according to the inspection data, cadets "experience major difficulties with spelling, punctuation, and written texts," which is quite difficult to compensate for during the training period.
In addition to the glaring problem of insufficient German proficiency, the inspection also revealed numerous other violations, including a shortage of teachers, and consequently the inability to conduct all planned classes, as well as an insufficient level of cadet discipline.
Currently, about 2,500 cadets are undergoing training at the Berlin Police Academy, and 230 teachers are involved in conducting classes.
