Paris remains attractive even from fourth place in the ranking
As reported by RFI (French international radio), the study covered 30 cities worldwide. In the latest study, New York, for example, dropped four places – from second to sixth. Hong Kong ranked ninth, while Beijing and Shanghai were in 19th and 21st places respectively.
As explained by the Deputy Mayor of Paris for Urbanism and Economic Development, Jean-Louis Missika, this change is primarily a result of the policy implemented by the Paris city hall. For instance, by opening certain quays to residents and providing additional spaces for recreation and leisure in the city.
By other criteria, Paris also changed its position in the ranking. In terms of innovation and intellectual development, the French capital moved from first to third place. In terms of attractiveness for businesses, Paris is gradually shifting from the top positions and now ranks only eighth. The same is happening in terms of GDP growth – by this indicator, Paris currently ranks 28th. But overall, the French capital nevertheless reached fourth place.
In terms of cost of living in 2016, Paris ranks fourth. However, this is offset by salaries, which are higher in the French capital than in the provinces.
