If you are going abroad for work – demand a special work visa, as a tourist or guest visa does not grant the right to work. Please note that according to the current legislation of Ukraine, payment for the services of an intermediary (in any form) before the actual employment of a citizen by a foreign employer is prohibited. The protection of rights of citizens temporarily working in foreign countries is regulated through bilateral agreements between our state and others. Thus, at present, the government of Ukraine has concluded agreements on mutual employment of citizens with the governments of Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Moldova, Belarus, Latvia, Slovakia, Armenia, Vietnam, Libya, and Portugal. The effect of these agreements applies only to those citizens who work on legal grounds, i.e., entered the territory of the country on the basis of a work visa, not a tourist or guest visa, and obtained permits for employment and residence.
Familiarize yourself with information about the country you are going to: main characteristics, social norms, basic laws, customs and norms of social life. Obtain contact information for the nearest Ukrainian consular offices. Also, information about non-governmental organizations that provide assistance to migrants may be useful.
Before leaving abroad, make copies of important documents (internal passport, foreign passport, etc.). Leave one copy with your family and take the other with you. Never give your passport to anyone! Leave at home or with your friends detailed information about your whereabouts abroad with address and phone numbers, a copy of your passport, employment contract and your photo.
Strictly comply with the legislation of the country you are in. Foreign citizenship does not exempt you from obeying the laws.
Strictly comply with the conditions of stay in the country specified by your visa. If you arrived on a tourist visa, do not attempt to stay in the country for permanent residence or to work. You must leave the country within the period specified by the visa. If for valid reasons you cannot do so, contact the competent authorities in advance with a request to extend the visa validity.
After arriving at a place of temporary (over three months) or permanent residence abroad, register at the consular department of the embassy or at the consulate of Ukraine. Registering with the consulate (registration) is recommended. It should be noted that this procedure is voluntary and in the case of temporary registration – free of charge.
Do not forget that basic knowledge of a foreign language will greatly facilitate your stay abroad. Learn at least a few most common phrases in the language of the country you are going to.
