The ambitious Dubailand project amazes the imagination even at the planning stage
Given the fame of the United Arab Emirates, it is not surprising that the leader of this ranking is Dubai – a powerful tourist center where, amid the endless flow of travelers, both short-term apartment rentals and the hotel business thrive. Today, 97 hotels are being built simultaneously in this metropolis, including one of the most ambitious hotel projects of the coming years – the hotel complex of the theme park 'Dubailand'. Recall that within this project, on an area of over 20 million square meters, investments estimated at 550 million euros will be realized.
Only the upcoming Fontainebleau resort in Las Vegas (3,800 rooms!) can remotely compare to this project in terms of grandeur, but the capital of the American gambling business itself ranked only ninth in the hotel construction ranking: today only 17 hotels are being built in Las Vegas.
Second place in the ranking went to another brilliant metropolis of the UAE – Abu Dhabi, where 66 new hotels are being built today. By the way, the most represented region in the ranking overall turned out to be the Middle East and North Africa: in addition to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the list includes Mecca (Saudi Arabia), Marrakech (Morocco), Ras Al Khaimah (UAE).
Third place went to a European capital – but contrary to expectations, it is not Rome, Paris or London: 49 hotels under construction earned Berlin a place on the podium. The famous European capitals listed did not even make it into the leaders, but Russia distinguished itself twice: firstly, 32 hotels are being built in Moscow (5th place in the ranking), and secondly, 18 hotels in various stages of readiness in Sochi (7th place).
The rapid construction of hotels in Russia is quite justified. Thus, the state of the hotel business in the Russian capital is characterized by a lack of budget options, which for more than a decade has been compensated by services such as daily apartment rentals, and the largest Russian resort of Sochi is preparing for the 2014 Olympics, which requires the creation of an expanded tourism infrastructure.
In addition, the ranking created by Tophotelprojects.com includes New York (43 hotels brought the American metropolis 4th place in the list) and Panama City, where 18 hotels are currently under construction (8th place).
