Rest – but don't forget about safety!

Tourists eager for exotic experiences often end their journey in the hospital.

In tropical countries, you must strictly follow simple hygiene rules that we all know from childhood: "Do not drink raw water!" "Wash your hands!" "Treat fruits and vegetables with boiled water!" All of the above will protect you from dysentery and Botkin's disease. You can contract such terrible diseases in any tropical country.

Usually the cause of infection lies in poor-quality water, and flies carry the contagion. Then symptoms of "jaundice" (abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea) or hepatitis (which can manifest not only with weakness but also with headache and hacking cough) may appear. It happens that symptoms of the disease appear a year later. Then you need to urgently search for a suitable clinic on a specialized website.

In Africa and Asia, you should not taste vegetables and fruits or sample local drinks at the market. If you really cannot resist eating something, then you need to wash the products with mineral or boiled water. Do not wash them with tap water, as chlorinated water is not always able to kill pathogens.

Connoisseurs of exotic cuisine should beware of dubious "fresh" items: raw crabs soaked in wine, snails, snake meat... Eating such food will help you quickly get worms.

But what is a vacation without swimming? Still, you should not jump into the sea right away, as in most tropical countries this is dangerous. Here you should follow safety rules: avoid wild beaches, walk on the sand only in shoes, do not sunbathe without a mat. The sand may be home to a wandering larva that, after penetrating the skin, begins to travel through the human body.

In the evening, women usually dress in open dresses, forgetting that there are many mosquitoes and sandflies in the air at that time. While the bite of the latter is only painful, a mosquito can give a vacationer tropical malaria. It manifests like ordinary malaria, but treatment will drag on for a long time. Therefore, as soon as signs of fever appear, you should urgently seek medical help, because delay is fraught with serious problems.

And in conclusion – once again about vaccinations. You should know that a tourist will not be allowed into any South American or African country without vaccinations against yellow fever and jaundice. And they need to be done long before the planned departure.
