Some centers were built in Soviet times but have been renovated, yet most of them were built in recent years and meet all global quality standards. It is safe to say that modern tourist centers of Altai are little inferior to the hotels of most famous mountain resorts, while maintaining more affordable prices.

The First Travelers

Holidays in Altai, as well as the study of the boundless resources of this region, has long attracted travelers. By coming here, you follow in the footsteps of famous people and real heroes.

Scientific expeditions to Altai began long ago, and perhaps this is the start of the history of local tourism. The book 'Travel through the Russian Altai' can be called the first guide to the Altai Mountains. It was published by the famous scientist and traveler V. V. Sapozhnikov at the beginning of the 20th century. It was after its publication that the first large flow of tourists went to Altai.

Another key date in the history of tourist Altai is July 26, 1914. On this day, the climbers the Tronov brothers ascended the main peak of the system, Mount Belukha. Their achievement opened a new direction for many climbers and hiking tourists. During the 20th century, Altai bases became a haven for Soviet, Russian, and now Western fans of 'wild' tourism.

Real tourism began with a tourist base. In 1936, the first permanent tent camp appeared on the shore of Lake Teletskoye, and some time later, the building of a tourist base. Now you too can choose the ideal recreation center by discovering your own Altai!
