And the European MOOC platform iversity, based in Berlin, has already posted the first free university courses. Its goal is to reach a six-figure number of enrolled students. It seems that it will be achieved, because already since the launch, 100 thousand students have signed up for courses.
Iversity started with six programs and now has a total of 24 courses, of which 15 are taught in English and the rest in German. Later this year and in 2014, other disciplines will be added.
The courses offered cover a wide range of topics, including philosophy, physics, architecture, economics, politics, and engineering. Some of them will provide students with academic credits in accordance with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
Among the offered programs, the most popular with students were Future of Storytelling from the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, Design Basics from the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania, and Public Privacy: Cyber Security and Human Rights from the Berlin School of Governance Viadrina.
