Olympic Torch Relay in Chelyabinsk

Those who booked a room in Chelyabinsk hotels in advance had the opportunity to see how a camel named Barsik (selected as a result of a serious casting) paraded through the city streets, guided by the strong hand of European champion Evgeny Zemskov. After the relay, the athlete admitted that it was not easy for him, and during training his four-legged partner repeatedly tried to get rid of the rider, and several times even threw him from a height of three meters.

At the start of the relay, prices for Chelyabinsk hotels, (for example, «Slavyanka») did not undergo any serious changes on this occasion, were packed to capacity, and most guests joined the residents welcoming the Olympic flame.

It must be said that the relay began early in the morning and took place in 20-degree frost. The start of the run was preceded by a ceremony of lighting the Olympic torch near one of the city’s symbols – the sculpture of a fairy-tale giant on the Railway Station Square.

The first to carry the torch through the streets was two-time Olympic champion Valery Gopin. Among others, four pupils of orphanages of the Chelyabinsk region also took part in the Olympic relay, who with honor covered their sections of the distance, running alongside adults from 160 to 300 meters.

The Olympic torch relay was not the only important event in the life of Chelyabinsk in recent years. Suffice it to name such mass events as Sabantuy, which took place here in 2007, the annual International Jazz Festival, as well as the transport business forum of 2013, etc. All these events showed that Chelyabinsk hotels, whose prices fully correspond to their class, are ready for the 2014 World Judo Championships. These most important competitions will take place at the end of August and are expected to be attended by athletes from more than 130 countries of the world.

Thus, modern Chelyabinsk is not only the industrial but also the sports capital of the region, and those who plan to visit it at the end of summer should book a hotel there in advance.
