New comfortable trains of Russian Railways are being put into operation
The passenger transportation department of Russian Railways reported that now the purchased trains are radically different from ordinary electric trains. Air conditioners have become additional standard equipment. The rattling inter-car transitions have been replaced with sealed ones. Stuffy vestibules are a thing of the past; now special ventilation is installed there, and automatic sliding doors open the entrance to the car for passengers.
For safety, a video surveillance system is installed in the train cars for passengers, and for technical personnel – a system for monitoring technical condition and on-board diagnostics.
Meanwhile, the October Mainline has become a testing ground for the country's first six-car locally produced electric train with ET4A drive, built by the Torzhok Car Building Plant. The train operates on the express routes Luga – St. Petersburg.
Speaking about equipment purchases, the department talked about how the operating fleet is being modernized and repaired. Over six months, repair enterprises installed LED lighting, new type windows with sliding vents, and vandal-proof sofas on 38 cars. The overhaul program for the trains was 100% completed in 6 months. In July, organization of overhaul of 30 sections of rolling stock is planned.
Note that since the beginning of the year, it is planned to overhaul 280 units of rolling stock in the suburban complex for 990 million rubles, including 235 sections of electric trains for a total of 789 million rubles, 4 rail buses – 55 million rubles, 40 passenger cars for 108 million rubles.
