College tuition in the US is getting more expensive

According to experts from the organization, tuition has already increased by an average of 6%. Meanwhile, many representatives of American universities interviewed by the newspaper were more pessimistic in their assessments. They did not rule out that due to the crisis in the American economy, tuition will continue to rise.

Currently, according to calculations by College Board specialists, the average annual tuition at public colleges is $14,333, and at private colleges - $34,132.

According to information from The Washington Post, in 2008 the number of applications to the federal Pell Grant program for financial aid to students increased by 800,000 compared to the previous year. Experts believe that in 2009 the U.S. budget will need an additional $6 billion to pay state scholarships.
