One of them is the School of the Chamber of the Paris Fashion Union (Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne – ECSCP), founded in 1927. Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Gilles Rosier, Olivier Lapidus, André Courrèges, Dominique Sirop, Issey Miyake – this is an incomplete list of names of legendary couturiers associated with this private institution, where future stylists and fashion designers are trained in textiles, men's and women's clothing, haute couture, and prêt-à-porter.
At the School, one can take a full three-year course, as well as improve one's qualifications through short courses. Training is practice-oriented, allowing students to adapt acquired knowledge to the changes constantly occurring in the world of haute couture. The curriculum includes developing skills through creating new forms and using new materials, developing own collections, studying the specifics of product specification and pricing, using new production technologies, developing personal research qualities, considering the possibilities of industrial production, and analyzing the market situation. Third-year students, as a graduation thesis, must present not only a collection of products, including the development of their own logo, but also demonstrate the possibilities of its production, promotion, and sales.
The tuition fee is 9.276 euros per year. Classes are conducted in French.
In 1841, Alexis Lavigne, a French inventor of mannequins and flexible measuring tape, opened in Paris the world's first school of haute couture, named Esmod. Today it has branches in Bordeaux, Rennes, and Lyon, as well as affiliates in Berlin, Munich, Beirut, Damascus, Jakarta, Oslo, São Paulo, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, and Tunisia. Esmod offers three-year and one-year programs in fashion design, a one-year course in fashion marketing, as well as short summer and evening trainings.
The three-year course consists of two main directions – style creation and modeling. They can be studied together, in which case the tuition fee will be 8.660 euros per year. If studying only one subject, you will need to pay a thousand euros less.
The course creators see the main task of training not so much in ensuring that students can understand how one fabric differs from another and be able to draw a sketch of a new model, but in developing their creative potential. In their opinion, studying the technical features of clothing creation should provoke the expression of one's own ideas. The course includes mandatory practical training. In the third year, students choose their specialization. It can be clothing for men, women, children, lingerie, knitwear, theatrical costumes, marketing, or fashion merchandising.
Foreign students (who make up 44% of the total number of students) who do not have sufficient command of the French language can be admitted to study with preliminary three-month language courses.
In partnership with Esmod, the Higher European Institute of Fashion (Institut Supe'rieur Europe'en de la Mode – ISEM) operates. Its distinction lies in that it specializes in everything related to fashion promotion. This includes marketing, commercial sales, and communications in fashion. The training program lasts three years and includes, in addition to traditional classroom sessions, work in an atelier, visits to manufacturing companies, conferences with industry representatives, as well as internships at enterprises.
In order to become a good marketer in the field of fashion, one must understand all the intricacies of its creation and production no worse than those who create it. Therefore, future marketers, just like designers and stylists, study the difference of styles, fabric characteristics, and secrets of production technologies.
• It would seem – what could be simpler than buying bed linen? You just need to decide on the color, material, and cost. And also – measure the size of the bed, decide whether to buy a fitted sheet or a regular one, the whole set at once or each item separately. After all, the price depends on all this! But to its clients, bed linen Kyiv provides an extremely diverse selection, so you won't be left without a purchase!
Upon completion of ISEM, students can continue their education at the fashion university at the University of Lyon, named after Lumière (Universitе Lumiеre Lyon II, Universitе de la Mode), where they can obtain a master's degree in fashion. The tuition fee is 7.540 euros per year.
The aforementioned fashion university only trains those who already have initial higher education at the bachelor's level. Here you can study in programs leading to the following diplomas and degrees: Master in Fashion Product Creation (Master Professionnel Mode & Crеation), diploma in the study and research of fashion (Diplоme Universitaire d`Еtudes et de Recherche sur la Mode), diploma in the creation of textile clothing (Diplоme Universitaire de Crеation Textile-habillement), professional certificate in the production of fashionable clothing and clothing made of textiles (Licence Professionnelle Habillement-Mode-Textile), diploma in design, textiles, fashion, and artistic installations (Diplоme Universitaire de Design, Textile, Mode et Environnement). The duration of study, depending on the program, lasts from one to three years. The university charges a fee for registration in the program from 1.560 to 2.322 euros, which also depends on the chosen program.
The traditions of education in the field of haute couture are also supported by a private institute of arts and fashion located in Paris, called MOD`ART International. It operates in two directions – the creation of fashionable clothing and business management in this area. The design faculty consists of departments of clothing design, modeling, hat design, and jewelry design.
Business management is divided into two programs – fashion and textile management, and fashion clothing sales. Training to become a designer takes three years. The first, basic course is devoted to fundamentals – drawing and modeling. In the second and third years, students must develop their own style, so they work on developing style, creating models and necessary accessories.
Future managers spend a year longer studying than designers. They must additionally study for a year at a British partner university. The curriculum includes subjects such as marketing, sales theory, fashion history, concept development, fashion clothing production, luxury goods, management, law, human resource management, accounting, and business planning. Practical training is a mandatory component of both design and management programs. The sales course is intended for specialists in this field, so the program lasts one year.
The institute offers one-year preparatory courses during which applicants are taught the basics of design – drawing sketches, still lifes, landscapes, illustration, and working with graphic editors. The cost of tuition for the fashion design program is 5,800 euros for the first year of study and 6,970 euros for subsequent years; for the management program – 6,460 euros for the French part and 14,600 for the English part of the course. The preparatory program will cost 4,650 euros.
As for industrial and multimedia design, these varieties can be studied at the Nantes School of Design (Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique). It was founded in 1988 by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the city of Nantes. The school offers a full five-year education culminating in a diploma from the French Ministry of Education.
The first year is common to both directions. During the year, students study drawing, perspective construction, volume representation, materials, and color characteristics. In the second and third years, specialized training is conducted in the chosen specialties. In the fourth and fifth years, students work on their projects and attend disciplines devoted to production technology and the development of managerial skills. Between the final years of study, an internship or a semester of study at a foreign university is provided. Such student exchanges regularly take place between universities belonging to the Cumulus Association of Universities of Art and Design.
The cost of tuition is 3,500 euros for the first year and 4,500 euros for subsequent years of study. The language of instruction is French.
