New Mercedes may become 'smarter'

The most interesting thing in the new generation S-Class is hidden in the car's interior

According to experts, the new generation of S-class will get a completely new multimedia system, as well as seats made as a "single block". These facts are confirmed not only by the official Mercedes dealer, but also by the chief interior designer of Mercedes-Benz.

Today, not only are tests being conducted on developments already prepared for production, but there is also an active search for new ones. The company's main know-how is the inclusion in the development program of systems that can be controlled using gestures.

As the automaker's designer reports, gestures can be used to control various functions in a modern car, but gestures cannot yet replace voice commands or manual input. For example, entering a destination in the multi-navigation system is still easier by voice or through interactive menu items.

In addition to gesture control, the automaker plans to pay special attention to the development of new seats, in which the backrest, seat and cushion are a single unit. A positive aspect of such seats is the reduction of their weight. They have already been shown to the public on the conceptual model Mercedes-Benz S-class Coupe. Currently, engineers face the task of maintaining the full functionality of the new seats so that all functions (massage, heating, adjustment) remain at the same level.

New communication technologies have also been reflected in the company's engineers' developments. An interactive system is being considered as the instrument panel, whose prototype was the screen from the Audi TT. Engineers and designers do not plan to use a large touchscreen like in the Tesla Model S. On the one hand, it is inconvenient to use, on the other hand, it is dangerous for the driver and passengers.

In conclusion, we note that followers of Mercedes-Benz expect the new S-class no earlier than 2018.
