Aeroflot officially joined the Sky Team alliance
Russian national carrier Aeroflot has officially become a member of the global airline alliance SkyTeam.
Now the alliance includes ten airlines - Air France, KLM, Delta, Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Korean Air, CSA, Alitalia, AeroMexico, Aeroflot. With the entry of the Russian carrier, the Sky Team alliance will carry 343.6 million passengers annually, operating more than 15,000 flights daily to 728 destinations in 149 countries.
Another airline route linking Ukraine and Israel has been opened
AeroSvit - Ukrainian Airlines has opened a flight on the route Donetsk - Tel Aviv - Donetsk. Flights are operated by Boeing 737 aircraft weekly on Tuesdays.
Donetsk - Tel Aviv is the fifth airline route between Ukraine and Israel, operated by AeroSvit together with Israeli carrier El-Al. The companies also carry passengers to Tel Aviv from the capital of Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Simferopol. From Kyiv, flights to Israel operate 10 times a week, and from other Ukrainian cities - one weekly flight each.
Airline fuel surcharges are increasing
Due to rising oil prices, airlines have begun to increase fuel surcharges.
Thus, Spanish airlines Iberia and Spanair have introduced a fuel surcharge of €10 on all domestic flights. On long-haul international flights, Iberia increased the surcharge by €2. The surcharge for European flights remained unchanged at €20. Air Europa has raised its surcharges to €9 on domestic routes and €56 on long-haul routes.
Dutch airline KLM is again increasing its fuel surcharge, which will rise by €5 on long-haul destinations. The total surcharge for a long-haul segment has now reached €45. On European routes, the surcharge is €15.
American Airlines has increased the fuel surcharge on long-haul routes by $10 per segment. Flights to Japan will be an exception, where the surcharge will remain unchanged. The increase took effect last week and has not yet been supported by other American airlines.
