Dombay is especially beautiful in winter
This is a magnificent place for recreation, sports, and tourism. There are many tourist, ski, and mountaineering bases, recreation centers, hotels, cafes with national cuisine, and mineral water springs that make vacation in Dombay unforgettable.
The resort features ski slopes that lie at an altitude of over 3,000 meters. Here you can rent ski equipment and ride on the slopes. The ski slopes have varying difficulty depending on the tourists' skill level. There are long slopes with turns, chutes, and forest trails.
Chairlifts and cable cars operate. Guides can offer routes of varying difficulty for any group of vacationers.
The center of Dombay is considered to be Dombayskaya Polyana – one of the most beautiful places in the Greater Caucasus. The highest point of the resort is the peak of Mount Dombay-Ulgen (4,047 meters above sea level). The word "Dombay" in Karachay means "bison." And indeed, in ancient times, bison lived here in whole herds.
The history of the resort goes back to the times of the Scythians and Sarmatians (around 1,000 years BC). The border of legendary Colchis from the south and the Scythian state from the north passed here. It is known that later, an ancient trade route passed through the Klukhor Pass, along which caravans of Romans and Byzantines traveled to the Middle East.
You can get to the resort by bus (tours are offered by travel agencies from almost any region) or by car. Due to the geographical location of Dombay, it is impossible to get here directly by train or plane. The nearest airport is in the city of Mineralnye Vody, from where you can take a bus to the resort in 2-3 hours. Or, if traveling by train, from Nevinnomyssk or Pyatigorsk. If you have the opportunity, be sure to visit Dombay! Clean mountain air, stunning landscapes, no rushing people, noise, or traffic jams of a big city.
