Construction of new facilities in Sochi is being inspected by members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
The five-star apartments were built in a year and a half. This is a record short time for facilities of this kind. The hotel is in the home stretch: doors and windows have been installed, many rooms already have carpeting and wallpaper. The layout of corridors and stairs is in full swing. Work is underway in the yard – there will be a tennis court and a swimming pool.
Some of the apartments are kept locked by the builders. These are the rooms where Count Jacques Rogge, Prince Albert of Monaco, British Princess Anne, and more than a hundred other high-ranking persons whose duty is to oversee the Olympic Games will be housed.
Nowadays, hotels in Sochi regularly receive high-ranking guests, up to heads of state. Top-level meetings are becoming common. The resort city became an international center of business activity even before the Olympics. And the expansion of the hotel network with elite hotels will contribute to this in the future. Funds for the construction and reconstruction of engineering facilities have already been allocated: a new thermal power plant is being built, work on the reconstruction of the airport in Adler and modernization of the seaport is planned. The city is preparing to become a year-round center of international tourism.
Importantly, the hotel with all amenities is built near the Olympic Park using 'green' technologies, because there are not many such hotels in Russia. The work related to the preparation for the 2014 Winter Olympics is carried out in accordance with ISO 14001 standards. In the hotel, as in the athletes' houses, energy-saving windows are installed. A technical water supply system has been installed. Only LED light bulbs will be used. It is planned to water the lawns not with drinking water, but with melt or rainwater. Shrubs have been planted and flowerbeds laid out even on the hotel roof. The builders consider the Royal Park of Britain as a benchmark.
International environmental requirements and standards were also met during the construction of infrastructure facilities. These standards, for example, require a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. To this end, plans include a complete renewal of the city's transport fleet. All old cars will be replaced with new ones with almost zero carbon dioxide emissions. This will minimize the harmful impact on the environment.
Of course, all these measures required considerable investments. This was done as part of the Federal Program for the Development of the Sochi Resort.
