As Travel.ru notes, unlike the British, the Dutch recognize Russia as part of Europe, and travelers flying to Russia will only have to pay the European fee rate. Those departing from the UK to Russia have to pay an exorbitant 40 pounds ($79) in addition to the fare and other fees, as local legislators consider Russia a non-European country.
It should be noted that the fee amount is determined not by the destination of the first flight, but by the final point of the entire route. Thus, if a passenger flies from Amsterdam to Frankfurt and then to New York on a single ticket, they will be charged the full 45 pounds.
Airlines long protested the introduction of the new fee, which will further drive up prices, but to no avail. Now Dutch airports are preparing for losses due to an outflow of passengers. It is expected that thousands of travelers will prefer to go by land to Germany, Belgium, or France and start their long-haul flight from there.
