German Interior Minister Otto Schily announced the results of the experiment. According to him, practice has refuted the opinion that passengers would be dissatisfied with such control and the recording of personal biological data by government agencies: "It is gratifying that passengers no longer have any doubts or fears about the new technology. Biometrics provide fast and reliable control." Such checks are becoming increasingly popular because they save passengers' time.
So, soon a brief glance into a special video camera will be enough to enter or leave the country. And the phrase "Your pupil, please!" will be spoken by the electronic device itself, which reads the biometric data of the eye. The stabilization system Flycam nano developed for video cameras allows them to be used almost anywhere. For example, Frankfurt Airport has two installations for such personal identification. In accordance with the requirements of the German Interior Ministry, Bosch Sicherheitssysteme, a company specializing in electronic control and security technology, has created devices that read information from a living eye. The passenger passes through a device resembling an ordinary border checkpoint. The machine's voice asks him to stop at a certain place, and the video camera reads the data. So far, an average of 100 passengers a day present their "eye document" to the video border guard. No border guard officials are present during this.
The innovation, however, raises other questions. Will automated bio-control not deprive employees of the German Federal Border Guard of their livelihood? And also: can electronic devices "swallow" fake eyes? The accuracy of biometric control systems reaches 99%. Thus, for a hundred border crossings a day, the electronic border guard, purely arithmetically, can generously authorize one illegal crossing. There is no exact answer yet. The creative thinking of border violators does not stand still.
