About 6,500 German citizens managed to find a job abroad last year with the help of a special placement agency in Bonn (ZAV), which is under the Federal Employment Agency. These include highly qualified specialists, nurses, and construction workers. The task of the placement agency is not only to find employment for highly educated specialists. If an unemployed construction worker turns to it for support, they will also look for a job for him abroad.
In most cases, labor is needed at large facilities, including for a limited period of time. Mobile, dynamic specialists with work experience and knowledge of foreign languages have an advantage.
The fact that the number of people interested in working abroad has been constantly increasing in recent years is, not least, attributed by ZAV director Monika Farnhagen to the high level of unemployment in Germany. But there is another trend. More and more young Germans are seeking additional qualifications, and they go to work abroad primarily for this reason.
According to Monika Farnhagen, the road to the European labor market is open for interested people, and there are opportunities for young people to obtain appropriate qualifications.
Over the past 10 years, the ZAV agency has placed 60,000 German specialists in a wide variety of countries around the world. From time to time, ZAV conducts special campaigns. For example, recently in the US state of Texas, German language teachers were needed. The Bonn agency took on the search for such specialists and their employment processing.
According to Sabine Seidler, press secretary of the ZAV service, Canada also has a need for specialists - mainly interested in attracting university graduates from abroad, as well as vocational school graduates. True, it is not easy to get a permanent job in both Canada and the USA - mostly young specialists are given the opportunity to do an internship.
First of all, those who have lost their jobs for one reason or another and, accordingly, belong to the category of low-income people are interested in ZAV's services. If such people manage to find employment through ZAV abroad, they do not remain without state financial support. The costs of moving, as well as payment for language courses, are covered by German labor exchanges.
