The most active buyers of real estate in the US were Germans, who made about 13% of transactions with foreign participation. They are followed by Latin Americans (13%), Australians (11%), Japanese (10%) and British (10%). Most of the houses bought by foreigners are located in traditional vacation spots – in Miami (Florida), Palm Springs (California) and at US ski resorts.
Among Americans themselves, married couples show the greatest interest in real estate. They buy 61% of homes. But with the expansion of mortgage offerings, more people from ethnic minorities (up to 30% of all homes bought) and single women (22%) were able to purchase housing. Single men account for only 9% of buyers.
35 years ago, it was almost impossible for an unmarried woman to get a mortgage, CNN Money quotes a US realtor, but now there are even mortgage programs for divorced people. According to the Census Bureau, over 51% of American women are single. More than half of them have a college education.
