Germany tightens traffic rules

The Bundesrat has tightened penalties for drivers for a number of offenses and introduced one new one

As "Russkaya Germaniya" explains, this is done so that the driver's face is recognizable when recorded by radar. Violation of the ban will be punishable by a fine of 60 euros.

A separate decision concerns gadgets. For those who use smartphones, tablets and laptops while driving, the fine has been increased from 60 to 100 euros. Previously, the law only prohibited the use of mobile phones and car phones. A similar fine for cyclists has been increased from 25 to 55 euros.

In addition, the penalty for attempting to stage street racing has been significantly tightened. Such violators face imprisonment for up to two years, and if their actions result in injuries or deaths, up to ten years. The vehicles of violators will be subject to confiscation.

Previously existing norms provided for a fine of 400 euros and a one-month driving ban for such violations.

The fine for failing to yield to ambulances and emergency service vehicles in the event of an accident has been increased tenfold (from 20 to 200 euros). Obstructing the passage of emergency vehicles carries a fine of 280 euros, and if material damage is caused, up to 320 euros.
